Release 2.00e, 22 September 2015

  1. If you loaded a 'large' project (where large = more items than the window tile count set in Preferences), the Project Manager entries for non-displayed columns could be wrong -fixed
  2. If you loaded a 'large' project and selected 'Print Project', calculations for columns with item numbers greater than the window tile count were output as blank sheets - fixed
  3. Where a beam or column contained B/F loads the load duration codes for them were omitted from the explanatory line under the loads (e.g. beam has a G [dead] load and a B/F G+QA [res] load. Line just said Load durations: G: Dead and omitted QA) - fixed

Release 2.00d, 24 August 2015

  1. A new option, Misc, Steel Section Data, displays steel section data in tabular form.
  2. For flange plate splices in unrestrained beams, an additional check for connection stiffness has been added. For end plate splices see this forum thread and the program ReadMe file.
  3. A new preference, Default steel grade, has been added to the Config, User Setup dialog, Preferences page. This follows user feedback to the change in 2.00a making S355 the default grade instead of S275. This new option lets you select whichever you think most appropriate.

Release 2.00c, 6 July 2015

  1. If you entered a beam with a load brought forward from a timber post or steel column which in turn brought forward a load from a beam, the load could be ignored on loading the project unless/until you edited the post/column - fixed
  2. In the Masonry Strength Dialog the unit type (solid brick, hollow brick etc) is now selected from a drop down list instead of selecting one of a number of radio buttons.
  3. A number of other small cosmetic changes have been made

Release 2.00b, 19 June 2015

Four small changes:

  1. Release 2.00a threw an error when attempting to show the disclaimer/licence screen - fixed
  2. Using the B/F button to add a B/F load to a timber post didn't always work - load could be lost when 'Apply' pressed a second time - fixed
  3. Change made to steel column and timber post edit dialogs: when 'Apply' is pressed, loads are sorted by position
  4. Checking for invalid connection dimensions improved (e.g. error was thrown if fin plate thickness of 0 was entered)

Release 2.00a, 5 June 2015

EuroBeam.net support - withdrawn June 2021

Our new EuroBeam.net browser-based version of EuroBeam is now up and running and handles steel and timber beam calculations. We will add steel column and timber post checking later this year but don't expect to add connections or beams splices, so think of it as EuroBeam Lite.

The key changes in this release allow EuroBeam to interface with our EuroBeam.net online steel and timber beam checker. Two new options have been added:

  1. Miscellaneous, EuroBeam.net login prompts you for your EuroBeam.net login and password. You have three options: Save (permanently if 'remember me' box is checked, for session otherwise), Goto (opens www.eurobeam.net in your default browser window) and Cancel (just closes dialog). Of course you can also access it directly from any computer, tablet or smartphone browser by going to eurobeam.net.
  2. File, Open EuroBeam.net project prompts you for your name and password (if not previously entered), then displays a list of your EuroBeam.net projects. Select one to open it. If desired, you can save it on your PC using the File, Save As option.

Other changes

  • New steel beams and columns now default to steel grade S355 as S275 steel is no longer commercially available (though you may still need to select S275 when checking existing members where the grade is unknown)
  • An additional preference has been added to the User Setup dialog, 'Invert bending moment diagram'. If you check this box, positive bending moments are drawn below the x-axis
  • For unrestrained multi-section steel beams, an additional note below the lateral torsional buckling table makes it clear that the figures in the table relate to one section of the beam only.
  • The Catnic and Catnic/IG box lintel script pages have been updated so as to reference the current Catnic range - BSD100/BHD100/BHD100 instead of CN5/CN6. The new pages have (2015) as part of their title.

Glulam beams: important fix

This release fixes a serious error introduced into release 1.40e glulam beam calculations. Due to a misreading of EC3 6.6(4) we mistakenly added in a ksys factor for glulam beams of 1.0-1.2 depending on the number of laminations. This only applies to laminated timber decks or floors only not beams. As with solid members, a ksys factor of 1.1 can be applied where the member is part of a load sharing system (e.g. joists at max 600c/s). Please recheck any glulam calculations you have done using 1.40e/f.

Other changes:

  • Default solid timber strengths have been updated to BS EN 338:2009. The changes increase shear strengths (e.g. C24 was 2.5, now 4.0) - this was done to compensate for the introduction of the Kcr factor of 0.67 added to release 1.22a (20 Aug 2013) - and increase E-values for grades D30/D35/D40
  • Glulam strengths have been updated to BS EN 14080:2013. As with solid members, the key change is to shear strengths (e.g. range was 2.2-3.8, now all 3.5)
  • Page and heading settings were not retained for networked printers with names starting with '\\', e.g. \\2k3server\HP LaserJet 4100 PCL - fixed
  • Depending on your selected font and page margin settings, a couple of lines in beam splice calculations could run off the page - fixed, now wordwrapped
